Google local finder rolls out website mentions matching your query

Google local now surfaces keywords that exist on your main site in map pack. Sees a move to heavier integration between the Business site and listing- great for mobile users.

This highlights the need to really pay attention to you landing pages and to use search console to gather data on them to make sure they are well optimised for searcher intent.

Google marks its 19th birthday with a ‘Google birthday surprise spinner’ doodle

Google turns 19. For me this highlights the infancy of the web. When I was 19 I was living with my parents contemplating moving in with my girlfriend to a studio Flat in finneston in Glasgow- I’d just started the “wee internet company” and was knocking out photoshop gems like this.

Ooooft how anyone ever bought anything from me I dont know- look at that haircut.

Nothing in particular to report but some interesting webmaster comments surfaced by Barry Schwartz at search engine round table-

One in particular says that they had a keyword drop from position 2 to position 5 and it’s “massively affects their business”

The study shows a 17% increase in the US 14% increase in the UK and a 33.5% increase in France.

I know there are mixed feelings about AMP but it looks like one of those scenarios where google rewards you for moving onto their controlled platform.

This news last came up in 2009 but someone recently asked John Mu (Google engineer and most powerful Pokemon), if Google penalises all sites in the same search console account if one site is a bad spam site.

John answered in perfect Google fashion…..with a riddle. If they are 5 unconnected sites and don’t show the same issues….then no.

Which leads us to believe – if they are “connected” then absolutely they are going to go thermo nuclear on you accounts. And why wouldn’t they – I know they roll out very affable engineers to pacify the community but their prerogative is good results for users – so if they think your a spammer – they are going to take you out.
